What is Really Important in Life
What is Really Important in Life
This morning I was fortunate to be able to take my daughter to school. I don’t get the opportunity very often because of work but this morning was different.
It is so amazing watching her grow up and change everyday.
After I walked her into the school and gave her a kiss goodbye, I turned to walk out.
And I saw…
In the doorway was this young man – he couldn’t have been older than 10 or 11. He was holding the door open for someone to walk through and after they passed through
He paused in the doorway still holding the door.
He was looking off into the distance and he didn’t see me walk up behind him. He kissed his hand and then reached outward, patted his chest and reached outward again. He repeated this three times and walked inside.
As I walked through the door, I saw that he was doing this to his Mom who was watching and still sitting in the car. I had to catch my breath real quick and I thought about how amazing this young man was and how much he loved his mother.
I also imagined that this must be his ritual that he did everyday and also maybe as his Mother tucked him in at night.
I then starting thinking about this really influencial time in his life when he:
– doesn’t have to worry about money
– doesn’t have to worry about the stress of a job
– doesn’t have to worry about paying bills
– doesn’t have to worry about all of those negative things that come to define our very existence as we grow older
He just was being him. Without judgement. Without regret. Without limitations.
Before all of this ‘stuff’ that comes with becoming an adult, there was just the relationships and bonds he has with his family.
It hasn’t become about the money.
It still is all about #familyfirst, #familylast and #familyeverythinginbetween
Throughout your life you gain money and you lose it. But there is always the constant of family and those who love you unconditionally.
When you leave the house today, think of that little boy.
Become that little boy for a brief instant.
If you can break down the walls that negativity, loss and failure have built up, you can allow this brief feeling to spread throughout your life until it becomes a constant.
